So Bloomberg decided that because he's a health nut, and because he can, all NY restaurants will no longer be allowed to use Trans Fats in their food. There's two deadlines...July 1st 2007 for some places and July 1st 2008 for others. It's not about the Trans Fat thing at all but, since when did we get politicians telling us what we can and can't eat? Not saying that Trans Fat is good, but regardless, if I wanna eat a "fat fry", let me. It's VERY upsetting to see that the land of the free is taking away so many freedoms...yes, it always starts with the little things....I wouldn't be surprised if there will be a law banning us from picking our nose, or whatever crazy thing these politicians come up with. They started with the smoking ban, now the fat thing...and this is only the beginning. They need to worry about the big things, and leave the other things up to us: We need to make our own decisions and soon, THEY will make them for us. It's scary.

It is rediculous. Yes, transfats are bad for you. The government has the need to play mommy to all of us 2 year olds though.

Sorry, but with all the other different kinds of fats that can be used for cooking, I don't think this is a big issue. People eating way too much fast food containing trans fats IS an issue in that it is causing our country to have a problem with obesity and the resulting poor health. This only makes sense.

Take this issue like the smoking ban a while back. Nobody is taking away your right to eat trans fats. All they are saying is that you can not have them in restaurants. Just like smoking was ban from restaurants, bars and clubs, so is trans fats. But if you choose to go home and cook with them; then good on you, go right ahead.

Trust me, they are not taking away fried foods. There are plenty of substitute oils that do not have the trans fat in them that will be replacing the others. After this dead line to switch over, people will realize that they can still gorge themselves on all the fried food they want that has absolutely no change of taste to their food. Then the issue will die.

I really don't see how it is taking away our freedoms. They are taking something away that may be harmful to people in restaurants who might not want to eat that kind of stuff. I don't smoke so taking away smoking was good for me. From what I read about trans fats, I don't think I want them either. So go ahead and take them out of restaurants.

"Give me liberty (trans-fats) or give me death!
I'm sure that's what he meant.

Cutting trans fat was an excellent decision. If you want to go screw over your health, feel free to do so in your own time in a place where it doesn't affect others as well (like your own home).

Those darn health nuts. Next thing you know they'll be inspecting restaurants and not allowing you to eat food with E.coli and salmonella.

I agree it is major BS. They should be paid to take care of major problems and not control what we eat. I am surprised California did not start it first.
