hi.
first make sure which standard your wireless is on the laptop.
either wireless b or g then buy a router that matches that standard. I use linksys - ballpark price is 50 bucks.

according to the range that you are going with a G band with SpeedBoost wireless router should do just fine. The range on wireless routers are (from least to greatest) B; G; G with SpeedBoost; Mimo; N. To get the best performance out of the wireless range the wireless card should match the signal output. Meaning if you have an N band Router to get the full benefit of the N band you also need an N band wireless card for the notebook. If the notebook does in fact have a wireless card built in, it will most likely be standard G and i would go with a G with Speed Boost router.

Unfortunatly there are several brands and makes and models. I perfer Linksys or DLink, just based on personal experience and customer service. A link to bestbuy's current online pricing for Linksys routers are below. Best of luck to you on this.

Cheapest way would to get a HUB and connect the laptop wired. DSL modem goes to HUB (WAN port) and both computers go to HUB. HUBs are around the $50 USD range.

If you want to use the wireless feature on your laptop then a wireless router is what you want. Make sure you get the router that cooresponds with our laptop's wifi channel (a,b,g). Wireless routers range from $60-$100+
