there are special "hardware" boxes designed to achieve this task, and there are cables too, that do the same. Alternatively, you can achieve this by throwing into your comp another video board and plugging the additional monitor to the recently added video board.

Most likely your computer does not natively allow you to do this; however, it is fairly simple to "hook up" the second monitor.
You will need to buy another graphics card so that you will have two (one already in your computer and the other) or one that has two outputs for monitors.
Windows will recognize that you have two monitors hooked up to the graphics cards and it will allow you to use dual screens.

Make sure your PC has a graphics card that has a second output, and plug your other monitor in to it. Then go into the display settings by clicking on the desktop, right click and display settings.

You need a video card that is able to do this, and it will have several options on how you can set up the display on them.
