i got the ethernet cable running from my xbox to my laptop, it's recognising it's all plugged in but when i try and set it up it keeps failng it ip adress test. i got no router, gateway(?), modem, i think the way i've hooked these two together is 'ad-hoc' because it's saying something about there not being a dhcp(???) server. any tips? please?

why are u trying to connect your xbox to your laptop for??
u also have to be using a crossover cable since the standard cable will not work. mainly because thats designed for a router or direct connection to a cable modem etc.
then u need to run the network wizard on the the laptop in the network connections on the control pannel.
