Right now I am considering Clemson, Winthrop and Coastal. My career objective is to be an instructor at a technical college, and possibly go on to obtain my PhD and be a professor at a University. Does anyone have any experience with these programs or have another program to suggest that I've overlooked? I want to attend full time for 2 years.

I do not want to attend USC because I do not want an International Business MBA and I do not want to attend Part time.

I do not want to attend USC because I do not want an International Business MBA and I do not want to attend Part time. I know that it is the best school in SC for Business however I do not think it is the best school for a business major that wants to teach business.

An MBA is a terminal degree, and not generally the right route for a PhD in most fields. It might be a good place to start if you are interested in marketing or management. It is a bad place to start if you are interested in accounting, finance, operations research or strategy. I actually did get an MBA before getting my PhD in Finance -- but I had also done graduate work in Mathematics and Economics.

If you want to go on for a PhD, you should to the best school possible. The fact is that there are no great MBA programs in South Carolina. There is only one good one -- and it is at USC. Don't let the fact that it has a reputation as being good in international business keep you away -- it is just a marketing ploy. Even if you don't take an international course -- their program still dominates Clemson. Winthrop and Coastal are not schools you should even think about going to if you want to go for a PhD.

While there are no great MBA programs in South Carolina -- there are two in North Carolina. Think about Duke or UNC instead of anything in SC.

USC has the best business program in South Carolina. Their International Business school is actually one of the best in the country.

Furman is also a better school than Winthrop or Coastal, (in general), though I don't know about their MBA programs per se.
