The fact that George Lucas asked the SFX people to redo the asteroid scene over, and over again, one guy got mad and threw his shoe at the screen. Another guy threw a potato. They were changed to asteroids with CGI obviously. Pretty crazy! I am a HUGE Star Wars fan and I did not know that.

Most of the rocks were constructed by the art dept form foam. The ILM wizards did composite some other items in those shots like a tennis shoe and a potato.

I remember when that movie was called The Empire Strikes Back. I miss the good ole days.
I thought those asteroids looked like an old pair of Florsheims.

they just made fake ones out of foam rubber and plaster.
