I've never heard of this, but it doesnt seem that it would be the best. Because if it didnt work you could end up weak and dehydrated.
Try the other things people suggested. Sex and walking are 2 great ways to get the ball rolling. just keep in mind if your body isnt ready then its not gonna happen no matter what you do. I was induced using pitocin, a week after my due date, and still my labor wouldnt start. They had to wait and try again a few days later.

Never heard of that but I have hear of nipple stimulation for inducing labor and also sex, as the semen has the same chemicals in it as the one a woman produces to bring on labor naturally , also the same as what a doc gives in an iv to bring on labor (pitocine I think is what it's called) fasting seems like it would make a hungry pregnant lady mean

I haven't ever heard of fasting to induce labor, but I do know that once you're admitted to the hospital they don't let you eat for fear that if you need an emergency c-section. Your internal organs would be fuller and more likely to get in the way of something if they have to cut you open. That's why you hear of pregnant women only eating things like ice chips, because it's often the only thing allowed.

I have never heard of this either. I dont think fasting before you go into labor is a good idea. Your labor may be long and you cannot eat once in hospital...so you could go a while without eating. The less you eat the weaker you are...and then you add stress of having baby and pain...you could pass out and then have an emergency c-section. I would exhaust all of other options first...haha...have lots of sex. Secretly I think my guy is hoping for us to be late...so we will be required to have sex sex and more sex!!! HAHA!!

Yes

Pregnant Jewish women usually induce labour after/during a fast day. The delivery rooms of hospitals in cities with large Jewish populations have a marked increase in deliveries on these days, especially Yom Kippur (in the fall) and Tisha b'Av (in the summer).

Doctors have said that the fast helps ensure a faster and easier delivery.

i guess there are some women who try this, but sex's better. Really! The prostaglandines in semen help inducing labor, and you actually might enjoy the process!!!!

I know fasting and dehydration can induce labour but it seems like it wouldn't be very safe.

I can't imagine that fasting could be good for mom or for baby. You would be denying baby nutrients he needs to grow. You'd be denying yourself the food that you need to have the energy to get through labor.

fasting does not induce labour. But once you are in labour or are being induced medically, doctors advise you not to eat because in the process of labour, you throw up whatever is in your tummy. If you want to induce labour, walking is the best excercise.
