Pretty much yeah, they'll kinda insist upon it.

Don't worry, it only takes a few minutes and if you feel uncomfortable, INSIST on having a female nurse in the room while it's being done.

You should talk to your doctor. She may or may not want to do an exam since you are not having sex. Birth Control is a great way to regulate your periods and control them alot better. You should be able to control your periods not have your periods control you.

If she does do an exam.... she will start out with a simple breast exam. She will touch and feel around your breast for any lumps. Them she will ask you to lay back. Its important that you try to relax during this part. She will stick a "duck bill" like instrument into your vagina and get some sample cells from your cervix. The light cramping feeling is normal. Its pretty much over in about ten minutes or so..... Its no big deal...

Yes. You need to undergo a thorough physical exam to make sure that you're healthy and meet all the criteria for taking hormonal birth control before you can get a prescription.
Even if you're not sexually active, you should still be checked and get an annual PAP smear if you're going to use BC.

Also, since you're NOT sexually active yet, talk to your doc about getting the new HPV inoculation. HPV is the leading cause of cervical cancer, and the new vaccine will help to prevent one of the most prevalent sexually transmitted diseases in the world today.

Girls, please talk to your doctors frankly about the effects of taking birth control in your teens and 20s might have on your health in your 40s & 50s- e.g. Breast, ovarian, and uterine cancers. They are determining this now with HRT- which is hormones for women after menopause. The effects of bc pills are not widely known yet, so make considerate and informed choices.

It is a good idea to get one. You should start having yearly checks when you become sexually active or when you turn 18. It is a good idea, too, to see if there are any problems going on (the reason for the "hard" periods).

I don't think it's necessary, but they may want to make sure you ddont have any problems which might be causing that pain, so they may want to and maybe you should let them. I have bad cramps and horrible periods and it is because I have adhesions and endometriosis. You should probably go ahead and let them do the exam.

Yes. Pelvic and while they are there, they will take a pap smear. You want the pills....you have to go through it. Just remember....every woman has to go through it. It only lasts a few minutes.

But look on the bright side.....at least we don't have that THING poking out of our pants. LOLOLOLOL

Yes they will want to do a pap smear and a pelvic exam and then they will do one each time you renew to ensure that the pill is not causing cervical cancer, etc.

I didn't have one when I first got birth control. I just let them know I wanted it. They can't give you a pelvic exam while you are on your period either. Just let them know your situation.

No you certainly don't have to have a pelvic exam. Just go ask for the pill and tell your doctor why you want it.
