Because he had the weight of the world on his pathetic, ziggy-zag striped shirt shoulders. His pet dog was a freak, his best friend preferred the company of a blankie, and the neighborhood crazy woman was a beast named Lucy.

Charlie Brown, often called Chuck by his friends, is a character that Charles Schultz created, much like his own personality.
He is characterized as a third-grade student, a lovable loser, possessed of endless determination and stubbornness, but who is ultimately dominated by his anxieties and shortcomings, and is often dominated and taken advantage of by his peers. He's a terrible pitcher, can't even fly a kite successfully, and is always called "blockhead" by Lucy, who also tricks him into making an attempt at kicking a football that she always moves once he has started the kick, foot ready and aimed, which results in his big head hitting the ground. He's in love with the little red haired girl but can't even get her because he has "no game."
The thing is, his character gained popularity and the doo-wop gang did a song with his name titled and the phrase, "Why is everybody always picking on me." He is the epitome of the classic kid who wants to be popular but is no good at anything. In the end, you can't help but like this kid because he's so endearing.
Schultz made him a winner!

Because Charlie Brown IS Charles Schultz. And both of them longed for the "little red haired girl". In the comic, it was a girl that Charlie Brown met once, but whom he never knew how to find. In real life it's the girl Charles Schultz fell for, but who turned him down for marriage.

Probably because he had to wear the same clothes everyday...that and the fact that he appeared to be sad when he was only concentrating on standing up straight and not falling on his face because his head was so large...

Because he can't get up the nerve to talk to "the little red-headed girl."
That, and all those times falling on his back/head every time he tried to kick the football couldn't have done much for his morale.

Probably the loss of hair at an early age. That really can be a bummer.

Because the rest of them picked on him. Even his own dog sometimes.
