Tijuana is only 12 miles south of San Diego. You can easily drive or take a bus from San Diego to the border, then walk across for a spot of shopping.

it really depends on what part of mexico you are wanting to go to. if you want to go to the border states and cities, then you can drive there. if you want to go deeper into mexico you can also drive there, but you are going to need a permit, which you can get at the border.
you can also take a bus, i would suggest you go to a border city and take one from there..i believe there is a bus called flecha amarilla, or you can take ETN. they are both pretty cheap and they are pretty comfortable.

That is about all the options you have. Cruising is fun. I just went there 3 weeks ago to Mexico.

you can drive. or you can take a bus from the border. I suggest that you just take a plane, unless you are going somewhere near the border.

my son took a bus to mexico.
it is possible.
i don't know about if there are passenger trains.
