can you put dishwashing liquid in the dishwasher?

I have detergent for the dishwasher but I thought by adding a little dishwashing liquid will degrease the dishes a little more. I use my dishwasher to sterilize my dishes.

No, definitely not. The suds will cover your kitchen.

Dishwasher detergent has special agents in it to keep suds low. Don't use the regular liquid (like Joy or Dawn) in your dishwasher, as these other folks say, because you'll end up in a bad episode of I Love Lucy, in a sea of soap suds all over your kitchen. And that foamy mess is hard to clean up. Best to wash by hand if you're out of dishwasher detergent.

Take it from my sad experience NO WAY You will end up having soap bubbles all over the room.

And, I only used a drop of the liquid stuff, too.
