I got my father a digital thermometer and a digital rain gauge for Christmas. He's very difficult to shop for because "there's nothing he needs" but he loves gadgets like that (as long as they're not overly complicated). Good luck!

If you can, arrange for something from your own homeplace for a gift. Are you living in the US with your host dad or are you American living away from home? Something "home done" is also nice...what about finding a book about your country/city/region? I am hosting a girl from Germany right now and she got my husband some things for the kitchen since he does most of the cooking. You might not know him well, but you should have some idea by now of things he likes. Don't worry about the cost, just give a small token. Believe me, host parents are most appreciative of gifts that signify something in their student's home country than any fancy gift.

Every guy loves electronics, games, movies, and music. Why not get him a gift certificate to Best Buy or a similar store...this way you will be sure that he can get what he likes, and it will still be a gift from you.

Gift Certificates are always a good idea. You can get them from anywhere, but restaurants or places like Best Buy are probably your best bet. I'm sure he'll just be happy you thought of him!

If you are from a city, or near a city...actually doesnt matter if its big or not. Get him something from your city like a mug set that says NYC or something...get his something that represents yourself and your home town so he can think of you.
