I seriously doubt it will hurt your clothes unless it's something very delicate like pantyhose. On the other hand, because wet clothes will freeze, they won't get dry either. I suggest hanging them up inside where they'll help the increase the humidity level inside your house (which is usually a good thing when it's cold outside).

It should not hurt your clothes, they will freeze and it will be hard on your hands, wear gloves if you must dry them outdoors. It is difficult to tell when they are dry, being frozen they become stiff.. If possible use Laundromat dryer, or ask a neighbor to help you out

No, people have done it for centuries. Just that with modern fabrics you may end up with a horde of wrinkles, like those in the generations before have to iron your clothes
Nice experiment - hang one towel outside and compared to one you dried inside on a line compared to one from the dryer

No, it won't hurt them, I've done it before.....It does make putting them away more difficult though, they all need to be ironed, and if you put sweaters out there, they just do not stay that soft. If they need to be hung, try hanging them on the shower curtain inside. Good Luck!!
