My child goes to a private school in Mississippi and we have to pay a fee for drug testing. Not every student is tested, just random students, but every parent must pay the fee. Is this legal or am I getting another screwing?

Good question. Being that it's a private school, they can set their own policies on how they bill and what they bill for. Like others have said, if random drug testing was part of the paperwork that you signed upon enrolling your child, then it is very plausible that you must foot the bill for this. If on the other hand there is no clause in the contract which states that you must pay, then you have a legitimate claim in small claims court against them, since they perform a service without your consent and then bill you for it. That my dear would be called extortion on their part.

Private schools have their own rules. I am sure the rules were in the paper work that you signed when your kid started. Read over them and see if it says any thing about it.

they should not be charging you, they should advise the parents and then they should go through their primary care doctor, to get tested. that is what you pay insurance for.....
