I'm not sure, but I believe it because they are trying to be more strict. I think all those guys are spoiled babies who make tons of money and can do whatever the hell they want. It looks like the NBA is trying to become more like the NFL---intolerant of the bull ****, and that is a very good thing.

if i remember correctly it was in '95 when the rule was made. Variations of the rule like full extension of the arm in the back of the player or even impeading the players progress with ur hand twords the rim are examples of how the rule has been in effect for a while but has changed slightly over the years

I believe the rule came into effect because of Derek Harper...that guy lived off the hand check...but yeah, hand checking had been removed in the 90's

HHANDCHECKING HAS BEEN OUTLAWED FROM THE NBA FOR SEVERAL YEARS NOW.
