Hi there; I myself am part of the porn industry (on some level, as I am not situated in "porn valley", California, AIDS capital of the world!).
Condoms SHOULD be MANDATORY in porn... However, since porn is already NOT a realistic portrayal of real sex, the producers decided that they shouldn't have to have their performers wear rubbers, and often an actor or actress will NOT be hired (or even FIRED off a set) if he/she requests the use of a condom during a scene!
Some of the softer companies, like VIVID for example, promote and use rubbers in their productions. Harder companies, like Red Light District for example, never have the males use rubbers in their porn.
Some actresses have quit the buisness altogether due to the porn companies' refusal to promote and produce using rubbers... Draghixa (from France) quit years ago for this reason, and recently Monica Sweetheart also quit for the same reason.
Then there's the newer generation of starlets like canada-born Lauren Phoenix who DO NOT use rubbers, saying that regular STD and AIDS tests throughout the industry, coupled with the fact that she only works with a certain "group" of individuals (in turn these "groups" also exclussivelly work only within themselves) who are exclussivelly active in the industry with themselves, she claims the safety is high enough not to worry about AIDS and the like....
However safe these "exclussive" methods may seem to be on paper, unprotected sex is like playing russian roulette... Eventually the loaded chamber will shoot and someone will go down.
The surprising thing right now in USA porn is how uncommon AIDS is being transmitted through the performers. Either the whole industry is keeping all AIDS-related incidents internal and very hush hush, or their strict policies on sexual activities are actually as safe as they lead us to believe!
In conclusion, just remember that porn, although "real" in the sense there's no special effects or stunt doubles (in most cases anyway!), is NOT a realistic depiction of sexuality... Porn is but a fantasy aimed at a specific target audience, and the producers will continue spawning this unrealistic drivel as long as the general public continues to consume the typical products.
I don't diss porn since I do it myself, but I think the world would benifit from variety in pornography, such as the distribution and promotion of lesser-common porn activities in film, such as fetishes and themes for example.
Cheers!

Because even though the porn industry displays a raunchy method of sexual acts, many producers and directors are trying to spread the message of safe sex.
There were a few porn stars who also died of AIDS and many stars want to be safer.

IMHO they should be used all the time. This is just due to the amount of partners that they have. I think that john Holmes had the HIV virus and that it was spread to many people that he had worked with.

The porn industry just wants to spread the word of "SAFE SEX" Even though in some porn movies sex looks raunchy and very offensive, its still should be safe. A few porno stars have died from AIDS. They are trying to spread that even though sex is safe...... it can be fun!
