Fair Trade is helpful, because in an economy the more money circulates the more prosperous that economy becomes...the more money that trades hands is beneficial for everyone in a free market. i.e. you buy a car, that money goes to a sales rep that buys groceries, the grocery employee goes on a vacation etc. It just keeps moving, but without free trade agreements money stays inside of a localized economy...or less money is moving between hands that slows the market down. Thats the theory anyways.

Because the idea that money 'trickles down' through society is a myth. Generally rich people are willing to spend money on accountants, unfair trade rules etc. to ensure no such thing happens. Therefore those at the bottom of the economy, the producers, need our help to make sure that they aren't exploited making luxuries for the rich.

Fair Trade is useful because workers, who don't usually get much money (banana pickers get about 1p for every banana they pick; retailers get about 14p for each 1 they sell), get more money because the price of the product is shared between each person who helped to sell the product. i.e. workers, plantation owners, shippers, retailers. But the bad thing is, fair trade products are more expensive.

Because the people buying the produce don't try and stiff the growers on pay, just because they come from poorer countries. Hence they pay a fair price (like they would if they bought it anywhere else) for the crop
