I thought I was the only one who gets annoyed with that. What is wrong with speaking correctly?

Like, I have, like, totally, like, no idea...
It's just a word people use when they don't exactly have a picture in their mind of what they're saying, or can't find the right word. Then, to fill time, they try to find a good word that at least sounds a bit relevant, and "like" is the word they choose, because the phrase they are using is a lot like the real one. Eventually, it becomes habitual. Just analyzing it from a psychological point of view...
I just made half of that stuff up, it just seems to be the logical reason.

like, because they went to school in like the 90's. like.
i have no clue. it's very annoying, but i guess it's better than the guys who use f**k instead of like every other word. lesser of two evils. I guess no one knows how to string more than two words together and make one coherent sentence anymore.

it usually means that one can't quickly find a suitable word to express his/her idea and extra words like "like" help to play for time :)
