Thats a tough question to answer, because its hard to compare players from different eras. Its hard to say whether Bobby could compare to a much bigger and yet closely talented guy like Chris Pronger. But I would have to say Bobby prpbably is the greatest and most influention defenceman thus far. I mean when you revolutionize the game, not to mention the position, and do as much as he did in such a short career, you know your one of the best ever.

Bobby Orr is the best PLAYER ever, not just best defenceman. He defined the way defencemen play today. He changed the game of hockey. Those knees, only if they would have lasted!!!

Bobby Orr may have been the best PLAYER ever to lace on skates, let alone the best defenseman. His career was cut short due to injury, so we'll never know, but he's definitely the best defenseman that ever played.

He was definately the most influencial defenseman ever. He is definately top 10 all time greats, but you can hardly disern between him, Scott Stevens, Ray Borque, a whole laundry list of defensemen.

he was the first defenseman who rushed up the ice with the puck. before him, defenseman primarily "stayed at home".
