When will the Iraqi people start defending themselves.....?

If they really wanted to rid their country of the fighting elements, they would report to the authorities the caches, the hideouts, and so on .... so the authorities could act. What are they waiting for? Where is the 8 million that voted for the new government?

they do, and they are, a little more all the time. some things just take time.

Who are they supposed to "report" any such things to? There is absolutely no organized, effective police force in Iraq - neither Iraqi nor US - who is enforcing any kind of civil law! Removing Saddam unleashed pent-up hostilities that have been simmering for generations. These people WANT to fight each other. Eight million Iraqis voting means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. You can't *impose* a democracy on a country that has nothing to bind it together, people who didn't initiate any action to democratize themselves. Saddam sucked, but you must understand that most Iraqis would take him back in an instant if it would stop the genocide that has begun!

other to be bothered with fighting off invaders & insurgents...
