Scotty, just answer the question. I'm only asking if there are any other companies that perform the same services. You also have it backwards... under government contracting laws, it is first necessary to ascertain whether another company performs the same functions before deciding whether a sole-source contract is appropriate. Better to keep your mouth shut and have people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.

So you want to know what other companies bilk the American public out of funding?

Numerous. A bunch. More than 10. More than a 100. Under this Administration--who knows!!!

Are you talking about companies that receive our tax money and put it in their pockets without doing a damn thing to earn it ?

Or are you waking up and realizing that their is no way to privatize the rebuilding of a country when their is a civil war going on?

We'd be able to know your answer if the contracts to rebuild Iraq and Katrina stricken areas were up for bid and not just handed over to Bush's buddies without spending limits or oversight.

There are a lot of companies that supply "products and services to the oil and gas industry" (from Halliburton's website) - Dow, Exxon Mobil, Royal Dutch/Shell, and DuPont to name a few.

Many "Halliburton" contracts are handled through KBR, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Halliburton. One of KBR's biggest competitors is Bechtel, who has the capacity to do most, if not all, of the jobs KBR is doing in Iraq.

There are no mega conglomerates that can cover the wide range of services that Halliburton provides. They are sort of like one stop shopping for all construction, oilfield, and infrastructure work.
For each phase of what they do there are other companies that could perform the job equally well, if not better, but no other company can do all of it.

There was actually a big story right when the Iraq war started. There were many other companies trying to bid contracts to the US to compete with Haliburton. But the government didn't even take their bids and just went with haliburton. So I guess we'll never know.

Nobody can perform like them . That's why they get many government contracts . Not because of Dick Cheney .
