I don't get it. Why are we comfortable with Iran (along with Syria) being approached by Iraq to help stabilize Iraq. This is a country full of Shiites - won't they just stoke the Shiite majority violence in Iraq? What about Iran's pro-Caliphate, militant Islam, anti-West, insane president problems? I mean, are we NUTS??? I must be missing something. Serious answers only please!

Well, now after the Iraq Study Group Report came out recommending talking with Iran, looks like a lot of people don't agree it would be a good idea....listen to what John McCain and Tony Blair had to say today about the report. . ..

Thanks for the input everyone!

Iran wants a stable Iraq just as much as we do. They have their own population problem, and the situation in Iraq does not help. They've said it themselves. Why else would the prime minister of Iraq travel to Iran so eagerly. They can play a major role in stabilizing Iraq, especially with their influence over the shiite population. They just want a share in the influence over Iraq policies. They would never dare try to take Iraq over however, knowing that U.S. missiles would be up their axx in about point 2. As for Syria it's pretty much the same kind of situation yet on a smaller scale.

Yeah, I agree... but I also agree with poster #2 who says we're looking for a way out. AND, ultimately, the Middle East needs to deal with its own. But, I don't see how there can ever be a 'happy ending' to this mess...

The US should withdraw it troops from Iraq and leave Iran, Syria and the rest of the world alone.

We don't really want Iran to help all that much, but we're in a bind and looking for help nearly anywhere we can get it. And looking for a way to get out of there, for domestic political reasons.
