Like, are they supposed to go between the mobo, and what it's being screwed into(backside), or between the mobo, and the screw head (frontside).

JUST TO BE CLEAR: I am well aware how to install the motherboard. ALL I NEED TO KNOW, if should the little rubber washers do between the mobo and the spacers(back side of mobo), or should the rubber washers go between the mobo and the screw heads (top side of mobo).

I'm not speaking of spacers. Basically -- I know how to build a computer from scratch. But I have never used washers. But I they always seem to come with the mobo or case, and I hear your supposed to intall them to avoid vibrations or something.

I know I could live without the washers -- but As long as I'm building it from scratch and the washers a right there -- it seems a shame not to do it properly.

Topeside sounds right to me -- can any one confirm alex's answer?

Confirmed:

The washers go between the mobo and the screw head. Think about how difficult it might be to put them between the case spacers and the mobo. Unless you used some type of adhesive you would have a difficult time making them stay in place until the mobo was lined up.

But, you are very much right this is an instruction which is left out of most mobo assembly instructions. I haven't seen this instruction in print yet and I've assembled several systems.

I should have warned you that you would get a variety of answers from a variety of people who don't know anything about what they are trying to give advice on.

This is the only link I have been able to find that gives any type of instructions pertaining to the "fiber spacers" which were given to you with the mobo. Please remember that this article is wrong if the motherboard is not made with built in insulators. And since your mobo shipped with the washer/insulators I would bet they are not built in. Unless those washers actually came with the case and not the mobo.....

Washers are always for the space between screw and
surface. So for a mobo that would be topside.
As a sidenote: Make sure you have spacers between
your mobo and the chassis or you risk a short circuit.

Use all but one washer, you want the mobo to be grounded to the case. They go between the screwheads and the mobo.

depends on what you mean by washer things, if you're talking about the spacers, they go between the mobo and the case, no washers should be used though.

I believe that you are speaking of insulating washers. Most of the mounting holes are to be grounded to the chassis, therefore, the insulating washers should not be used.

If you do use them, or must, then the washers would go underneath the motherboard to isolate the electrical connection from the chassis.
