How soon before pregnancy should i get off it? I am a bit afraid coz I am violently moody without it and on top of it there is a possibility of post-natal depression...

Obviously, Terry G has never dealt with severe depression or rage issues. Shame on him for hijacking your question. Go play with Tom Cruise...

I was going through IVF cycles, and I actually stayed on a low dose of Zoloft up until the pregnancy was confirmed. Then I weaned off of it (by choice). If you are on Paxil, you may want to get off that and on to Zoloft now.

Honestly, you will find OBs telling you that it can be MORE beneficial for a mother to be on them when pregnant over being off of them. It really depends upon the severity of the depression/anxiety on whether or not someone should be off. And really, with a severely depressed mother, it could be more beneficial to the baby, as well.

Think about it. If a mother is suicidal....or is in danger of hurting herself or her unborn....or not thinking straight...then meds are the best thing to keep her on.

A doc will probably talk with you about the benefits outweighing the risks and go from there.

But, if you are on a med that isn't considered safe to take while pregnant and you need some sort of meds, your doc can also change your meds to a safer one.

You might want to research the fact that you don't need to get off them. My cousin was on them and went to a information clinic. She stayed on them throughout her pregnancy...and had her baby and nursed while on them. Her baby wasn't premature...he was 9lbs when born and perfectly healthy

Personally I think the American people take way to much medications. A pill for this and that. Its life events that govern your attitude and feelings NOT being a mother. My primary concern is for the child, everything you take, is given to the child. What are we doing to the next generation.
