Very good question indeed! It should have by rights, hmmm guess you could always say it was special magic, the spell was cast to help her so the slipper didnt turn back into her old shoe so that she'd have a wonderful fairly tale ending. The fairy godmother was clever lol!
On the other hand the more plausible answer is the same as to why in horror movies the air head girl in skimpy outfit goes back into the house where she either heard an intruder or scary noises, even though the lights are out and all her firiends have been getting picked off in the last few days. Same reason why charcaters have a sixth sense in some stories and just know they should do this or that. Also the same reason that anything happens in any story that makes u think what why didnt they just just do this or that.....its because if it hadnt happened that way the writer wouldnt have had a story i.e. if cinderellas slipper turned back into her old shoe then prince charming would have passed it by, and would have had nothing to trace her with, she would have died an old spinster, and the prince would have realised he was really gay (his name would be fitting to that) or married some other woman who would have took him for half his riches in the divorce settlement and he'd have had to sell his castle. But then all the little children would have cried and grown up bitter!

Because she lost the first slipper, it was no longer a complete pair of slippers. Her ball outfit started changing at 12:00 sharp but couldn't complete the cycle when it got to the right foot and the change back spell stopped.
I believe her fairy godmother built that into Cinderella's fate and as a "test" or quest for Prince Charming. Princes are always going on a quest for some reason - the reward being the girl.

First off, the slippers were glass not gold. As are is why...leaving aside the fact that we ARE talking about a fairy tale here...the slippers were not made from anything else (such as the pumpkin to a coach, and the rats to horsemen) the gown and slippers were a magical gift from the fairy godmother. Also, it is the device the original teller of the tale used to allow a link to Cinderella...there had to be some way that the prince could find her again...

The fairy godmother did it to make a happy ending and it was a glass slipper.

it's a fairy tale. (and the slippers were given to her by the fairy godmother, not made out of other things (mice, pumpkins, etc).)
