A federal government job would pay the best and provide you with the best benefits for your retirement. I know someone who worked in law firms for years and made good money but then changed jobs and got a federal government job. She makes about $10,000/year more than she did working in a law firm and plans to stay at this job until retirement. There is never any overtime either and they let you leave early if there is a bad snowstorm.

State and Federal are both considered as Government jobs, just at different levels. Generally, when compared to my state, the Federal jobs pay better. Whether this holds true in relation to all other states, I'm uncertain.

private pays better however the benifits of a goverment employee (espically federal) are worth the few extra thousand that a private job will pay. If your a young employee work for the federal and as your career slows down then go to state and/or private companies.

It depends on what you do, but I would say that the Federal government jobs pay best.

State, or Govt OR Fed? I thought there was only State and Fed....

I work for the state. I can tell you that Private sector work pays more, but Govt benefits are much better. I guess it would depend on what state you live in. Im in California...where the cost of living is high, so they compensate with pay. I dont know how the Feds pay.... But I do know that State Prevailing Wages are much higher than Federal Davis Bacon wages....

Get a real job in the private sector. That is where your real money is. Gov jobs just use up my taxes and make the bureaucracy larger.
