i just got a 90 jeep cherokee, and it overheats like crazy. and all of the torque converter bolts were coming out. everyone i know who owns a jeep hates it and has tons of problems. yesterday, when my new jeep overheated, the upper radiator hose actually exploded, not much left but shreds of torn rubber, and the radiator cap never even blew off any pressure

Dude, you own one of the most abused vehicles in the world. You should see what people do to these poor things. And be very happy it was given to you. most people buy into these problems. Even the most stock looking jeep has probably been modified many times.

It's a 16-YEAR OLD CAR!!!!!! Why do you expect it to run like a brand-new Camry?
As for the new Jeep, unless your radiator has a cap with a vent (almost none do) it will not "blow off any pressure." It's not designed too. Perhaps if you had not allowed the vehicle to get so hot in the first place, you would not have blown the hose? Just a thought.

Those Cherokees will run forever as long as they are taken care of. I've seen guys have Cherokees with over 285,000 miles on the engine! Those straight 6's are running little machines.
It sounds like you need a new thermostat, hoses and a radiator flush. That would propbably take care of it. The radiator only blows after a certain amount of pressure builds; by your description the hose was ate up and couldn't handle it. And by the way, any vehicle that old needs that type of maintenance; it's not a new car!
Some places you can go for parts that I like are http://www.jeepparts.com, http://www.4wheelersupply.com , and http://www.xtremeterrain.com

That thing is 16 years old. Good grief, if you're going to ***** about it, suck it up and buy a new vehicle, NOT Jeep this time.
Stuff happens to cars, you learn the hard way and there is no prevention to some stuff. Just remember to check (or have somebody check for you) major functions of the car every other oil change.

lots of vehicles are low quality, in the opinion of some ppl
everyone has their preferences
the hose was old and damaged and needed to be replaced if it did that, someone should have been performing regular maintainence and inspection under the hood, as you are supposed to do with all vehicles, but no one ever does, and then they wonder why stuff happens
the loose TQ converter bolts may be a factory fault, or someone may have rmeoved the transmission in the past and didnt tighten them properly
you need to open your mind and consider possibilities
some ppl shouldnt own vehicles if they dont like the fact that stuff happens and that it takes money to keep them,
good luck
