The US is not really a democracy but a blend of several philosophies.

A democracy only works when a country can expand.

We do not live in a democracy. We live in a Republic. In a Democracy people have direct say in how things are done. In a Republic, we elect people to offices to represent us. We do not have the ability to vote directly on a Federal law. That is done by our Senators and Representatives.

To back this up, in the Biography of Benajmin Franklin, when he left the Constitutional COnvention, a newspaper man asked him what kind of government they had given the American People. He replied: "A republic, if you can keep it."

There has never been a real Democracy in History. Plato's Utopia came close, but that was just a theory.

Democracy is, and has been the best way yet thought up for the masses to determine their own destiny.
Take your pick -- - democracy where you can vote in the people you want in the government, and a say about the laws that will govern you.
Dictatorship - - - everything is in the control of one man, He ownes the land. He owns the armed forces. He owns you.

The USA is actually a constitutional republic. True democracy is filled with problems. Most people do not use critical thinking and that leads to disaster if they are making the governing decisions through voting. The USA survived that by placing in Constitutional safeguards and using elected officials to vote for us but we have been eroding them for the last hundred years or so.

More people need to take an active part in Democracy for it to work. There is too much apathy among Americans. That is the greatest threat to our country. People think that the abuses of personal freedom and liberty we see in other countries can not happen here, but they can.

The opinions may vary but, in a perfect world with perfect conditions, Democracy (the will of the people) would be a perfect system.

The same would hold true for Communism, Fascism, and Socialism. They would be perfect systems under the right conditions.

It is the best form of government so far.

Nothing is perfect, it has it's flaws but citizens do not feel as voiceless or oppressed as those in non-democratic countries..

I'll take democracy anytime . I'm a Type A controlling opinionated person. In another society I'll probably be in jail or dead by now.

Well, its represents itself as a concept, rather than a rule of thumb.
It works well...but its far from perfect. When everyone is comfortable enough for ALL, then we need to put it park, think of a name to call it, and go with it. For now democracy is fine.

Forcing democracy on others is not very democratic

As we preach democracy to the world, its principles are being subverted at home.
