All the wireless router does is to give you access to the internet via the service provided by your ISP cable. There are no restriction as to How you connect so you do not have a problem. I have cable and a wireless router connected so I can use my laptop when the main PC is being used by the family. Dont worry your not doing anything wrong.

Yes, most likely they could. If they are smart enough. However, it is not (and should not be if it is for your ISP) against the rules. All a router does is stop you from having to but an IP for each computer you have.

Your use of a wireless router for Home Networking is Okay. (Unless they specified in your contract something different, they don't control your Home Networking setup.)
They would like you to buy their branded wireless router, but they probably wont help you if you have technical questions concerning the one you are using.

Unless you have 20 computers and each one is downloading tons and tons of data then you shouldn't worry. Wireless routers are not illegal so your cable company can't say ANYTHING about it.

Does your Cable company not allow it? It shouldn't matter... You are paying for it... aren't You? I have a router... the don't encourage them but they are allowed... They don't encourage it because they can't shut the internet down if you don't pay the bill...

Please provide more information as why you are worried. No they couldn't tell and as long as you are paying for internet service of anykind it isn't illegal. Even if you have free service from someone like netzero it isn't illegal.
