Detecting USB in Red Hat Linux?

hi., i hav red hat linux installed on my comp. i wanted to know how do i use pen drive via usb port in linux, the pen drive is not being detected in linux, but works well in WinXP.. how do i enable the usb port in linux so that i can use the pen drive in linux..
