i own a repair shop,and all you have to do is look at the vehicle,to see this,,look under it,if it has a transfer case its a 4 wheel drive,this is an easy one to decide,,and most of the time the vin wont tell you this,but this is the best way i know of to tell,,good luck,i hope this help,s.

4th to 8th characters- Identifies vehicle features such as body style, engine type, model, series, etc.

Since you don't identify what vehicle you want to check, I can't tell you if it will tell if it is 4WD. Dodge does not. Chev and Ford might. Type in VIN decoding in your search bar and check out some of the sites.

look under the front of the vehicle see if it has a front drive axle or front drive axle shafts or CV shafts

if none then its a 4x2

on s-ten trucks and blazer s=2wd t=4wd
