I've heard pregnant women shouldn't eat food contianing nitrates. On store bought packages of pepperoni it shows one of the ingredients is sodium nitrate. Does that mean I shouldn't eat pepperoni pizza?

I avoided nitrates when I was pregnant, but not to an extreme. I would eat pepperoni pizza (or a calzone) from time to time, sausage, etc. It's fine if you just don't over do it.

You'll find the greatest amount of sodium nitrate in canned or processed meats, so try not to have ham or chicken salad for lunch, then follow up with pepperoni and sausage pizza for dinner.

Congratulations and good luck!

I've never heard of not being able to eat pepperoni pizza...and women have been doing it for years...I had a friend who would eat Pepperoni pizza all the time cause she craved it and her baby turned out just fine....

It's probably not the best thing you could eat, but it's not horrible for you. Just keep in mind that lots of people don't even know they're pregnant and eat anything and everything for months! It can't be that bad. Enjoy being pregnant and eating whatever makes you happy!!!

You should be fine as long you are not eating a whole bag of pepperoni yourself. Eat things in moderation and you will be fine.

It is suggested you stay away from foods containing nitrates like pepperoni, hot dogs, or luncheon meats...but as long as you are not indulging every single day, it's okay to treat yourself on occassion.
Everything in Moderation!!

Have common sense. If it bothers you-- don't it eat. I had pepperoni pizza with my son, who is now 20, and there's nothing wrong with him.

It means you should cook or microwave processed meats to kill any handling germs before you eat it. Pizza with cooked salami or pepperoni is not a danger.

You will be fine. Eat what you want - just keep a balanced diet. The only thing to avoid is sushi and alcohol!

Congrats.
