Anorexia is an eating disorder where the suffers starve themselves to get thin. They usually have a distorted body image (which is a mental illness in itself) that makes them believe they are fat. This tends to be a disease associated with young women but men and older people can get it too. It has alot to do with control. Young women can't control a lot of things about their lives, particularly while living at home, and they can't control how beautiful they are but they can control what they eat. Food becomes the enemy and they feel strong and powerful if they can resist it.
Bulimia is all part of the same package, only the sufferer is 'weak' and eats something, or even a lot of somethings, then feels horrible guilt. They feel fat and dirty and like a failure so they have to get all that food back out of themselves, usually by vomiting. Then they are 'good' again.
Both conditions can lead to death from malnutrition or mis-balance of the body chemistry. Both conditions are very hard to cure because the sufferers really do want to be thin and doing what they do works. Being thin is a good thing in our culture and they are the best at it. Why would they want to stop doing something they were good at?
Ironically, I have written a blog entry about this today. Its here if you are interested:

Anorexia is more of a psychological disorder in which you train your mind and body into thinking that you do not need food to survive and that food is your enemy. It is when you feel like you are fat and starve yourself to keep the image you have created about yourself alive. It is very dangerous and needs more assistance in treating than bulimia because of the intense psychological nature.
Bulimia is when you vomit after eating. These people enjoy the satisfaction of eating and know that they need to eat, although, they vomit to attempt to keep from gaining weight. This is also dangerous in that it can cause damage to the esophageal lining as well as the nasal cavity.

A disorder were women/men strave themselves. Bulimia is a dieses were the person binges and purges, maybe eating up to 10,000 calories in one sitting, then throw it all back up. Most pateints have a combination of both bulima and anorexia, called bulimarexia. Bulimarexia is a combination of both binging and purging, and, starving themself. The side effects of all of these dieses can be: loss of menstrual period in women, tooth decay, eshophages damage, Loss of weight, loss of muscle mass, and bone loss. The mental side effects can be devastating. Reserch shows that most people with eating disorders lose memory and brain mass. (not kidding!) Many people belive that if they start watching weight and eating less, they will get a perfect life. Some just want to lose 2 pounds, but lose 40 in two months and feel great. Others with this disorder star because they feel they will have controll over somthing in their life. Many people isolate themselves, thinking friends, family, co-workers, doctors, therapists, ect. want to make them fat, and force them to eat, so many have no social life.
I hope this will help you.

Say to friends, family and work friends that you’re dieting. Support through the people around you keeps anyone motivated, stops you from cheating and makes it less likely you will fall off the wagon.

Here are some eatting disorders
Anorexia is characterized by a significant weight loss resulting from excessive dieting. Most women and an increasing number of men are motivated by the strong desire to be thin and a fear of becoming obese. Anorexics consider themselves to be fat, no matter what their actual weight is. Often anorexics do not recognize they are underweight and may still "feel fat" at 80 lbs. Anorexics close to death will show you on their bodies where they feel they need to lose weight. In their attempts to become even thinner, the anorexic will avoid food and taking in calories at all costs, which can result in death. An estimated 10 to 20% will eventually die from complications related to it.
Bulimia is characterized by a cycle of binge eating followed by purging to try and rid the body of unwanted calories. A binge is different for all individuals. For one person a binge may range from 1000 to 10000 calories, for another, one cookie may be considered a binge. Purging methods usually involve vomiting and laxative abuse. Other forms of purging can involve excessive exercise, fasting, use of diuretics, diet pills and enemas.
Bulimics are usually people that do not feel secure about their own self worth. They usually strive for the approval of others. They tend to do whatever they can to please others, while hiding their own feelings. Food becomes their only source of comfort. Bulimia also serves as a function for blocking or letting out feelings. Unlike anorexics, bulimics do realize they have a problem and are more likely to seek help.
Binge eating disorder is characterized by consuming large quantities of food in a very short period of time until the individual is uncomfortably full. Binge eating disorder is much like bulimia except the individuals do not use any form of purging (i.e. vomiting, laxatives, fasting, etc.) following a binge. Individuals usually feel out of control during a binge episode, followed by feelings of guilt and shame.
