Taxation is the government's way of producing revenue for the benefit of it's citizens. Therefore, it is your civic duties to pay your duly-requested taxes (of which the income tax is the most, but there is sales tax, property tax, etc) so that you can receive the benefits from the government (local, county, state and federal) that you are entitled to. No service is free, it must be paid for in some way. All nations have taxes in one form or another.

Taxation is a very nebulous subject. Sales taxes (state and federal) are legal, and they are voluntary. You are not required by law to buy the item taxed. The income tax is a direct tax on individual compensation for labor, which is unconstitutional. The government continues to refer to the 16th amendment allowing taxation “from whatever source derived” even though the U.S. Supreme Court knocked it down a year after it was illegally ratified (see “The Law that never Was”). The federal government is operating outside the law, as proved in numerous court cases. It is every citizen’s civic responsibility to do everything in their power to legally fight bad law.
