I don't. I pick the one that states the truth.

I think it depends on the question.

Is it a question that requires references or links to justify the answer or is it a matter of opinion.

When I ask a question and decide on a best answer, I do so by the content of that answer. Snappy, snide answers will never get a shot at best answer from me. But one the person has taken the time to consider and given his/her opinion with sincerity. If it is a factual answer, I'll look for references aside from the opinion of the answerer.

But you are right. If you look back at other people's answers, some even say they just wanted to see if someone would agree with them and that's the person who received the best answer. Not really a great way to award points, but it is the asker's prerogative to give best answer to whomever he/she chooses.

Majority rules, you have to have a quarum before an answer is deemed best. The votes are based on the simialirty and merit of the answers. It's like voting for president. Just because one got more votes than the other and wins by a landslide doesn't make him any better than the other. He's just the lesser of the two evils. Peace.

you in the R&S section, we aren't looking for cheat codes to GTA or the voltage of a toaster. Most of our "questions" can't be answered. And yes there is a fair amount of ranting going on. However the best answer here is usually given to somoene who sums up the querstion well and gives a take on it that the questioner thinks was a good point, or someone who did their best to answer it and gave their oppinion in a good manner.

So to get best answer should I disagree with you? I don't know. I have given a lot of good answers, I think, but most of them I never hear any feedback on. I think people who ask questions here often want to just have their own beliefs confirmed.

It's human nature. People are much more accepting of answers that support what they wanted to hear.
