Pushing includes wind propulsion, an internal engine, physically pushing.
Pulling includes gravity (pulling downhill), towing, and being dragged along via airfoil.

put some kind of force behind it
for example:
a light box can be moved by a heavy ball.
go from an inclined object with something heavy enough to move something at least 1/2 its weight and let it slide or push it down so it can gain momentum.

Wouldn't it depend on what the "something" is?
If its a actually physical thing-- it could be pushed, pulled, dragged. or various other methods of making motion.
