You know how sometimes when you bid against somebody, and their bid instantly goes up every time someone bids, even if its only a little bit? How do you do that?

It is called PROXY BIDDING.

You set up a bid amount that is higher than the lowest bid. For example, if the seller sets the starting bid at $9.99, you set up a bid at $24. But what ebay will show is not your $24, but the starting bid of $9.99. If someone comes in and bid at $11, for example, a bid on your behalf will automatically be placed at $11.50 (or whatever the increment is). An automatic bid will be placed for you -- until someone bids higher than your $24.

Here is eBay's description of how proxy bidding works http://pages.ebay.com/help/buy/proxy-bidding.html

ebay automaticly does that for you. so start your item at a price like a penny or a dollar and as long as two people bid on your item it will go up in 10 cent increments once it gets to a higher price it will switch to 50 cents then to a dollar then to 5 bucks then to 10 bucks then to 20 bucks then to 50 bucks then to 100 bucks
ebay automaticly does this for you but you have to have at least two people bidding against each other for it to work
so if only on person bids it wont go up till another person bids

When you go to bid you put in your maximum bid amount. That is the higest you are willing to pay for the item. It will not automatically put that as your bid, it will outbid the other bidders up to your maximum amount.(Ebay does this automatically) I have never had to look for this it is always on the 'place my bid' page.

PUT A MAX BID IN - ONE HIGHER THAN THE CURRENT BID.
IF BID IS CURRENTLY 5 DOLLARS. BID 10 DOLLARS THEN AS BIDDING GOES UP YOU WILL REMAIN HIGHEST BIDDER UP TO TEN DOLLARS.
