Yes, but not too closely. Pacus and Piranhas care cousins, both being part of the Characin family, Pacus being (very) large and shy, and Piranhas being a more moderate size and much more voracious.

Ive heard of Pacu even called vegetarian prianha before. They are both a variety of tetra, but even within that group are pretty closely related within family Serrasalminae. Pacu get Much larger than any piranha species will, and eat a lot more veggies, fruit, and nuts, though they wont pass up a small fish or invertebrate if it will fit in their mouth easily.

much in the same way dogs are related to wolves. Paco's are largely herbivores their jaws when grown are designed to crush nut shells.
