I would have to choose Harry Potter, if you are going to show this movie as a family screening.
Lord of the Rings if you have intellectuals round, it is a film for people who comprehend what the story is all about.
Shrek I & 2, absolutely terrific for all...from start to finish.
Star Wars the late 90's and 2004 version, superb.

ITS IMPOOSIBLE TO PICK!!!!!!!!!!!!
I like waaay to many and they differ with mood-
but The Big Lebowski
Man on Fire
Goldeneye
2001: A Space Odyssey
Star Wars(es)
Full Metal Jacket
The Matrix(1)
Spaghetti Westerns
Lone Wolf and Cub(s)
The Shawshank Redemption
Are up there along with the other ones I gonna kick myself for forgetting later! See way to many and much more too.
I cant pick OW my head hurts!!!!!!

-----I'm probably among a very small (obviously intelligent with good taste) group here but I think think Star Wars Cartoon-the Clone Wars is the best hybrid genre out there!!!!!!!!

If you want a film that won't be suggested by anyone else here then you have to try Return to Paradise with Joaquin Phoenix, Anne Heche and great performance from Vince Vaughn(in a serious role).

One of the most unbelievably emotive films that is not restricted to any type of demographic.

Check this link (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0124595/ ) to prove what I mean but when I started my DVD collection it was the only one that I made sure I got! Enjoy!
