It's hard for the older generation to accept what's going on as they always want the best for their children. Then once the marriage is good they know they have to accept the fact that this person is family but when a baby comes along it shows how much you love and support your spouse let alone how you both care and would give and do anything for the baby. And then the grandparents treat the grandchild better than their own children as they have realized how precious life is and want to hold on to what they have.

I believe Parents see children as being a defining thing ... although, our culture sure as hell has'nt shown it that way ... As far as being accepting, it's not the parents who married the low life scum bag .... get over with it ... he/she are the ones to leave the parents and cleave unto their spouce. Also, children end up being the legacy that the parents children create .... why not accept the children of their own children, the kids didnt do anything wrong ...

Possibly because of the number of marriage breakdowns and they don't want their children to be one of the stats. But a child born to this union can be a viewed as a bond between them as such the parents see their child as growing up, cause regardless of how old you are you will always be your parents child.

Kids and grandkids change everything. Once you have kids you are offically a family no matter what. And weather they really except it or not they know they have to play nice to see the grandkids.

Babies change everything. Even if the parents don't happen to like their child's spouse they will learn to tolerate that person for the sake of their grandchild. One look at that innocent little face and they can't resist.
