Why is it when I see Dan Castellaneta on TV and he's asked to do Homer's voice he always sounds like the angry earlier version of Homer in the early seasons of The Simpsons? I've never seen him do the voice and sound like Homer does now i.e. stoopid

He can do it, but he has to 'put on' the voice, so it will sound different at times.

The earlier voice is more different from his own so he uses it in interviews. He changed the voice for the show because the angry one hurt his throat if he did it too long.

Because the cartoon voice is recorded in a studio - the confines of which will affect the acoustics etc somewhat. It's much the same as why people/bands singing live rarely sound as good as they did on their album

Do know HOW many times he is asked to do that voice??
Do you think he is a bit tired of it by now??
That could be one big reason! He also does other voices too

Just the thought of him not being in the usual eniviroment to do the voice throws him off. I watched an interview and thats his reason why its just he is put on the spot to do it and it throws him off.
