Thanks for your question, it helps give me perspective. I am one of those stressful hateful people around X-mas time. I just feel like the message that hits me the hardest in the face is that I am not a worthwhile person unless I "get my shopping done" and go ape poop over "putting up the lights." I feel it is a very judgmental time of year that sets out to "force" you to participate. But you're right, the deep spiritual aspect of xmas should not be lost in the shuffle. Thanks.

Some people become stressed because they feel they need to buy alot in order to have a good Christmas. Some people get depressed because they might be thinking of loved ones that are no longer with them. This just happened to me last week when I was decorated the tree, I just burst into tears. It had nothing to do with forgetting what Christmas is all about.

Because part of the "Holiday Magic" is trying to make everyone, especially kids happy. And if there are money issues, work demands, health problems and all kinds of things interfering with a person's desire to make this a happy time for their family, it causes stress. Sure, Jesus's birth is the central theme of Christmas, but to honor it, we celebrate (granted, for our own benefit too) and this is where the pressure comes in.

Some people are alone during christmas because they have lost their loved ones, and it is hard to be in the festive mood when your world is full of gloom and misery and there seems to be no reason to live anymore.
This is a true story. About 4 years ago during the nativity play in a church I went to, one old lady in a wheelchair suddenly burst into loud tears. I happen to know who she is, and she had lost her husband of 50+ years, early in that year from cancer. Some of the good church wardens rushed over to comfort the poor lady.

It's not always because of the gift giving that people get depressed. People who have lost loved ones, especially recently or around Christmas, get very sad. For them Christmas is a reminder that their loved one is no longer here with them.

People are tired of what this has become. A money making event. Many Children as well as adults only think of their selves, and what gifts they want.
They are not thinking of Jesus. People today, go into debt because of this holiday. For one day a year, they end up paying for months. Some people unfortunately get so sick by the stress of it all.
I for one am glad I follow the bible, and don't celebrate holidays.
If you read from the account of Jesus, you will see he was born in late October. Early November.
In mid November/December the weather in Bethlehem was cold and rainy with snow. The bible at Luke 2:8-12, it shows that at the time of Jesus birth, the Shepherds were "living out of doors, and keeping watches in the night over their flocks" near Bethlehem. The shepherds were actually living out of doors, not just strolling around, taking the animals for a walk. This would not be happening at the cold and rainy months. They kept the animals inside then. Mary and Joseph would not of went to Bethlehem to register in the cold and rainy snow, especially knowing Mary was with child.
Did you know the date December 25th was the day pagans held ceremonies to celebrate the birthday of the conquered sun?False God's.
In the 17th century christmas was banned because of the pagan origins involved. But in order to convert the pagans to join the christians, they combined this date to be the date of Jesus birth. I love Jesus, but I don't want to celebrate a holiday that has parts of pagan origin. And Jesus does not want this either.
Look up this in the New Encyclopedia Britannica.
We should be in the gift giving mode anytime of year. We should not be forced to give something we can't afford. But be able to give from our hearts.

not everyone believes that crap, some people get lonely around xmas. missing friends and family that they once shared holiday fun with. some people need more than an invisible man and an archaic religion to get happy.
