I'm looking to buy a lap top for my son and this seems to be in my price range. Is it any good?

Dell's XPS line is their "high end" latops. It should have sufficent "punch" to keep him going for several years. While I do not know the specs of M1210 off the top of my head, the XPS line is a good choice. Like all Dells, you can customize it when ordering. The more memory the better. That is always the best place to invest in a computer.
Beyond that, it should be a good choice.
