I have a Dell Optiplex GX520 and it seems to be running hot. What is the normal operating temperature for this or any other computer? At the moment, it is running at 117 degrees F.

Actually, I have many of these computers. They all are basically brand new. They all run hot. We have a computational program that runs in the backround and need it there.

Thats not that hot for the cpu really thats rather good. If it was 117C then you would have a problem actually you would have a fire.

Mine Idles at 34C and hits full load after a couple of hours and maxes at 55C, those are 93.2F and 131 F.

If you want to lower their temp try running a stress test for a number of hours like all day then let them cool overnight. This well take the thermal paste to the highest thermal conductivity and they should max a little lower then.

FYI I have seen many acers with 3.0 GHZ p4 running at 70C thats 158F they even had a side vent.

Soo you really don't have a problem.

117 F isn't all that hot. Exactly where on the system is that temp being taken?

check you cooling fan, if its not running, run the pc doctor on the system, if it continues, to do this, you may consider replacing the cooling fan, to avoid and serious damage.
