Hi Friends,

I am 7 weeks preganant, I went to see my GP, she recommended 3 hospitals which are worst and have high death rate..

I am afraid of choosing but had to select one...but now really worried as the staff & hospital has really really bad name.

Can I select hospital out of my residence area, I don;t mind travelling as safety comes first? if yes how should I convey to my GP to provide me her approval for good hospital.

Please advice.

I wanted to use a different hospital before and had the same problem as you which was that the GP could only suggest 3 places to me and couldn't offer any others.

I needed the hospital to be near my work (work and home for m me were a long way apart) and I wanted to go for treatment in my lunch breaks.

What I had to do in the end was register with a GP close to my place of work (something you're allowed to do sometimes) and they were able to send me to the hospital I wanted. Hopefully this is an option for you...

Yes, you can choose any hospital you choose. There are a few setbacks though. If you like your doctor, she will not be the one delivering your baby at a hospital she does not practice at. You will have your baby delivered by a doctor you don't know, unless you switch doctors as well. The other setback is that if you have insurance, make sure ahead of time that the hospital is in your network and accepts your insurance so that you don't have unexpected costs after the baby is born. Congrats on the new baby!

Hi
I was in exactly the same situation only last week, the hospital that the doctor referred me too was truly horrible, and i have persuaded him to refer me to a different one. I wonder if it is the same hospital?
Anyway i spoke to a midwife who said its a little known fact that a patient can choose any hospital they like.
I would research into a hospital that's not too far away from you, but better than the first ones they offered you and then ask your doctor to refer you.

I think you should just tell her that you dont feel comforatable going to those hospitals with a bad reputation. I went to a gospital 50 miles away to give birth and all my appointment were there also. I think you should chose a hospital you can feel comfortable and who you can trust. Do a little research a ask around to see what people think about each hospital. good luck and Congratulations on your pregnancy

You can choose any hospital you'd like (in the US anyhow). It's possible though that your doctor can not deliver at any hospital. If you pick a hospital they don't go to you would have to find a different doctor.
