We all know the points go to the defensive team because he made the shot at their basket. But does he shoot the foul shot at his basket, or is the play dead.

If the other team is out of foul, then he shoots two FT. If not, then the ball is out of bounds with his team having possession. It is not in the act of shooting which is considered to occur only when a player is attempting to shoot the ball toward his own basket.

The player is not credited with being in the act of shooting. The foul is treated as if the player was attempting to pass rather than shoot at the wrong basket.
