Republicans love to slam Jimmy Carter. However if we had listened to him 30 years ago and started diversifying our energy sources we wouldn't have to worry about 2060 now.

Don't know about 2060, but it is sure to run out one day. We still have plenty of oil in our own country. It has been said that Colorado has more oil than the entire Middle East. This may be a slight exaggeration, but the truth is there is plenty. The problem is the process of getting to the oil. It is in rock and would be very expensive. One day, a cheap process will be found. Alaska has plenty. Finding an economical means of drilling without destroying the environment is said to be the problem. This is not the problem, it is government regulations and the environment itself (the weather). Companies can be environmental sound - many choose not to be.

We already have the capability to produce other forms of energy to power our automobiles. The oil companies backed by our government are not about to allow this to happen. Oil is very profitable right now. Maybe out next president will do something about it. We have hydrogen that is doable - just do it. We have alcohol which will burn clean and would require practically no changes to the current fueling system.

I have read from numerous sources that if something does not change by 2030 it will be more expensive to get the oil out of the ground than it is worth. We might very well run out of oil by 2060 or run out of people who can pay for it. You ask alot of interesting questions and I generally like where you are going with them. There is a book you should read that explores this is in great detail called American Theocracy it is a well written book. I highly recommend it to you.

No, we will not run out of oil. We were also told that by the year 2000, every other person would have AIDS. And then there was Y2K. And then there is Global Warming.
How long before people realize that we have been lied to over and over.

Politicians are natural born liars. The same can be said for network newscasters.

I have heard this number bandied about. I have heard from pessimistic leftist groups that we will actually run out by 2035. On the opposite side, I've heard that we've actually only tapped about 5% of the world's oil and the supply is practically infinite. This is a difficult area to separate the facts from the propaganda since everyone seems to have an agenda to push regarding oil. One thing that is certain is that until we develop reliable alternatives to petroleum based power, there will be fights over it, there will be economic strife over it, and the Muslim world will use it to hold the West's economy hostage.

There is no shortage of oil. Oil wells are being secretly opened and then capped to increase prices, because THIS secret and evil group has been in control of everything for far too long!...

It isn't an issue of 'running out'....it's about the inability to secure enough supply to meet demand... thereby causing huge spikes in the price of oil and severe damage to our economy.

I think the bigger question is, why, in a world full of brilliant scientists, has no one developed an alternative source of energy that is cheaper, more efficient, and less toxic? OR HAVE THEY???

No. We'll run out of oil if we refuse to drill for it, though.
