Other people have already explained the use of the word vixen as referring to a female fox or a woman (either attractive or shrweish.) But the connotations of the word go beyond the dictionary definitions. When vixen appears in a book or film title, it almost always refers to a woman or women of bad character, who are decadent and extremely self-indulgent. Such books and films are often pornographic in nature, and that is part of what lends the word its negative connotation. Due to the cheap production values of the writer/fillmmaker, the quality of such works is low and generally matches the subject matter. They are not considered tasteful. The women are usually young, often underaged, and act in a manner to deliberately taunt and tempt men.

There is a DC heroine named Vixen, her secret identity is Mari McCabe, and she is a high-fashion model, who has animal-related powers due to a magic totem. She is black and one of the prettiest women DC has in their considerable collection. I don't know why she chose that particular name; it may have been out of a sense that people would characterize her as a vixen no matter how she behaved.

A vixen is a female fox. They really stink when they are wet or have been running hard. I always wondered why women liked to be referred to as a fox or foxy. They weren't reared in the country as I was or they would find being a vixen or fox is very crude.

1. a female fox.
2. an ill-tempered or quarrelsome woman.

Since fox is slang for an attractive or alluring woman, vixen has become the more naughty connotation.
