wildchild_lizardqueen, I applaud you for your sensibility and intelligence. I'm not a woman, but the fact is sex sells, always has, always will. If it didn't, then do you really think advertising agencies would still be using it? Sex has been the most successful marketing tool ever used to promote products for both men and women. Sorry to burst any feminist bubbles in here, but women's products are promoted with images of sexy women because that's what the women buying the product wants to look like. Whether you like it or not, that's the way it is. For every one woman that claims she won't buy a particular bra because the model looks too sexy, there are 1,000 others that will buy it BECAUSE the model looks sexy. Want more proof? I run two websites, http://www.buddyandoscars.com and http://www.passionsunchained.com (adults only)
and not only did the lingerie that was modeled by gorgeous women outsell the same lingerie that wasn't 4 to 1, but the exact same lingerie sells more on Passions Unchained than it does on Buddy & Oscars, and I doubt very seriously that the majority of the buyers are men.

No effect at all really. Although i'd like to see REAL people on the front of magazines and stuff, rather than touched up pictures or models.

Then again if I was buying hair dye, i'd like the girl to be pretty, because that's the whole point of dying your hair really isn't it?

As a matter of fact, I hate the use of pretty women to sell me things, even clothes. I would much prefer a normal-appearing woman of normal size. I wear a size four, but I resent models always appearing extremely thin and beautiful. It makes me feel unattractive - not like I'm going to look like her if I buy it.

Actually if the advertisement is outrageously sexual or looks like porn, I will make a point of not buying whatever it is they're trying to sell. I know I don't make a difference, but I feel better about myself knowing that I'm not buying into selling women as objects for decorative use!

Yes, it certainly does. If not, then why is the cosmetic business a billion-dollar industry? If that were the case, No-Ad brand and Dollar-General clothing would blow Victoria's Secret and L'oreal out of the water. Yet other women will deny this to the death.

There are so many reasons that I will NOT buy a product that tries to manipulate me with sex or sex appeal. It is insulting, patronizing and condescending.

If a company wants my money they better tell me what the product will do for me and using humor will help.

Peace.

It doesn't affect my purchase. One thing I will admit is if the model has the same shape of body I do, I do look at whether the clothes look good on her or not. If she has a different shape and the outfit looks good on her, I'll think about whether the outfit would look the same on a different shape or does it work welll due to her shape.

I would have to say less. It disturbs me that most companies only use absolutely gorgeous women to advertise. What about the ugly girls!?! sorry if I offended any1.
