When I change gear while driving as usual, the clutch pedal did not come back to its original position after I raise my foot. I stop my car and found that the pedal has lost its spring kind of function and I can no longer gear my car while the engine is running. (ok if the car engine is off). I have no idea what is going on and would somebody please tell me what is happened? Many thanks

Some part of the clutch linkage has come loose. If it is mechanical, all of it should be out in the open and you could see it. If it is hydraulic, sometimes, you can see the linkage and sometimes there is just a hydraulic mechanism in the bell housing. Without knowing the make and model of your vehicle, no one can tell you what to do to fix it ,exactly.

i own a repair shop, and you need to check and See if its hydraulic system on this one,,if it is the main cylinder for the clutch may be going out on it,this is the most common cause for this happening to one, also check and see if its full of fluid ,its located out side on the fire wall good luck,i hope this help,s.

What car is it? On my Vauxhall Cavalier when this happened it meant the clutch cable had broken.
